Damilola And Kareem Adeyeri Get 12-Year Jail term for Duping American Of $82,570

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday sentenced Mrs Damilola Ahmed Adeyeri and her son, Alaba Kareem Adeyeri, to 12 years’ imprisonment each for duping an American of $82,570.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke convicted the duo following their plea of guilty to four counts of “fraudulent trick business email compromise” during their arraignment on Tuesday.

He sentenced each defendant to three years’ imprisonment on each of the four counts filed against them by EFCC. The judge said the sentences would run concurrently.

The National Hospital says it has been recording high patronage on knee and hip replacement surgeries since 2015.

Dr Umaru Habila, an Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon with the hospital disclosed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.

Habila, also a Chief Consultant and Associate Professor at the hospital, said that the increase in patronage was as a result of the economic situation in the country.

First suspected case recorded in Africa

The first suspected case of coronavirus in Africa has been reported in Cote d’Ivoire.

The student who had lived in China for the past five years, is recorded to be the first person to be tested for the virus. At least 80 people according to CNN have been killed in Wuhan, China.

According to a statement issued by the Ivorian Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, while on transit from Beijing to the Felix-Houphouet-Boigny International Airport in Abidjan, the 34-year old student displayed symptoms of the virus – coughing, sneezing, and experiencing difficulty in breathing.

Upon arrival at the airport, the student was immediately moved “to a safe location and is currently under medical observation,” the ministry said.

Despite the symptoms being very similar to that of coronavirus, authorities believe that “it is highly case of pneumonia and not coronavirus.”

Nonetheless, the ministry added that the final diagnosis will be made after the test results had been analysed.

China votes $9 billion to contain spread of coronavirus

China’s finance ministry and National Health Commission have extended 60.33 billion yuan (S$11.8 billion) to help contain a spreading virus, according to a statement on the ministry’s website.

The death toll from the coronavirus outbreak rose to 81 on Monday, as the government extended the Lunar New Year holiday and more big businesses shut down or told staff to work from home in an effort to curb the spread.
