Doctors Discover 9 Nails In Woman’s Stomach

Doctors have discovered nine nails inside a patient’s abdomen – and she had to poop them out.
The 20-year-old woman, from New Delhi, India, swallowed the nails with a cup of toilet cleaner in a failed suicide attempt.
The next day she went to A&E with severe stomach pain.
X-rays revealed multiple nails in her stomach and upper abdomen.
Instead of removing the nails in surgery doctors prescribed her psyllium husk, a plant product that acts as a laxative, with water or milk and bananas, according to the BMJ case report.
After 11 days she had pooped out all of the nails without any complications and was discharged from hospital.
But three weeks later she went back to hospital complaining of vomiting and a lack of appetite.
Doctors used an endoscopy – a small rubber tube with a camera that’s inserted down the throat – to see what was going on.

Snake Bite: Plateau Records 250 Death In Three Weeks

No fewer than two hundred and fifty victims of snake bite have died in the last three weeks in Plateau and Gombe States, following an acute scarcity of snake anti-venom drugs in the country.

The figure represents the number of confirmed deaths from three snake treatment centres – General Hospital, Kaltungo, Ali Mega Pharmacy, Gombe and Comprehensive Medical Centre, Zamko, Plateau State.

The snake anti-venom drugs – Echitab Plus ICP polyvalent and Echitab G monovalent – had not been supplied to the country since August, throwing the treatment centres into crisis after the last vials were used up in the first week of October.

Echitab Plus ICP, produced at Instituto Clodomiro Picado, University of Costa Rica, treats bites from all venomous snakes in Nigeria, while Echitab G, produced by Micropharm Ltd, United Kingdom, is solely for carpet viper bites.

Snake Charmer's Son Dies Of Snakebite In Katsina Community

Isah Saidu, a 40-year-old native doctor and snake charmer, has been remanded in Katsina Prison, for allegedly causing the death of his 15-year-old son, Kamala Isah, through snakebite.
According to sources, the incident reportedly occurred on November 5, 2017, at Kuringata Village, Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Saidu was said to have allowed the boy to play with a snake.
The police, in the charge filed against Saidu before a Katsina State Senior Magistrate’s Court, said the father ‘indulged’ his boy by permitting him to hold a snake which bit him, resulting in his death.
The boy was said to have died at Malumfashi General Hospital where he was rushed to for treatment after being bitten by a snake.
Saidu is facing one count of culpable homicide contrary to Section 222(7) of the Penal Code Law.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, told the court that the case was still being investigated, and prayed for an adjournment.
The presiding magistrate, Hajiya Fadila Dikko, adjourned the case till December 19, 2017, for mention and directed that Saidu should be remanded in the prison custody.
The magistrate said Saidu’s case would be decided based on the legal advice to be issued by the Katsina State Ministry of Justice.

A DOZEN TIPS FOR LOWERING OF BLOOD PRESSURE AND FOR PREVENTION OF HYPERTENSION.
There are some non-drug therapy measures that you need to take from today on:
1. Avoid taking artificial spices like Maggi, Royco, Onga, Vedan, Ajinomoto, Knorr, Chicken Knorr, Indomie spices, etc because they help raise your blood pressure. Instead, cook with natural spices like onions, ginger, clove, garlic, turmeric, Cinnamon, etc.

How To Make Coconut Fufu

*Notes on the ingredients:*
🌀We have already established that COCONUT FLOUR is a healthy, low carb, gluten-free, grain-free flour so it checks all the buttons in the healthy meal department.

🌀 GARRI is healthy too, that is if you buy the classic Garri that passed through the full process of making authentic Garri.
Garri is made from Cassava tubers which are high in carbohydrates but the process of converting the cassava tubers into Garri makes Garri a healthy meal.
1. The cassava tuber is peeled and ground into a paste.
2. The paste is then sieved with a chiffon cloth to remove all or almost all the starch in the cassava. This starch is what you see being sold in Nigerian markets for making your clothes stiff or to make Starch that is served with Banga Soup.
3. The fibre or chaff resulting from this sieving of the ground cassava is then put in a bag, tied and put in a press to remove all the water from it. It stays in the press for at least 24 hours, up to two days and during this period, fermentation sets in.
Fermentation reduces the dietary carbohydrate levels in cassava. And remember, most of the carbohydrate have been removed while sieving.
4. When dry, the ground cassava is then sieved again with raffia sieves with big holes so that only the big fibrous pieces of cassava do not pass through.
5. The result of this sifting is then dry roasted in wrought iron pans to get Garri.
Ijebu Garri is an example of a well processed healthy Garri.

🌀 PSYLLIUM HUSK is a gluten-free food thickener that mimics the job of gluten. It is popularly used by those on low carbohydrates diets

🌀 The reason why we must mix the coconut flour with another healthy flour that creates a more elastic dough is because Coconut Flour does not contain gluten. Gluten is the substance that is present in flours that gives them the elastic texture when you mix the flour with liquid.
This absence of gluten means that when you try to use only coconut flour to make Coconut Fufu, it will not come together like when you make semolina fufu. So you won’t be able to use it to make balls of swallows.

🌀 By 2 “parts” of Coconut Flour, I mean: if you are using a milk cup, measure 2 milk cups of coconut flour and 1 milk cup of Garri, if you are using a tablespoon to measure, that will be 2 tablespoons of coconut flour and 1 table spoon of Garri and so on.

*Directions for making the Coconut Fufu*
1. Mix the 2 parts of coconut flour with one part of Garri in bowl.
2. Grind the combo with a dry mill (coffee grinder, spice grinder, blender dry mill etc) to turn the coarse grains of Garri into powder.
3. Pour some water in a pot and set on the stove to boil. The quantity of water depends on the quantity of Coconut Flour you are making.
4. When the water boils, pour a small quantity in a bowl and set aside. Reduce the heat to low.
5. Then start pouring the coconut flour and Garri mix into the hot water and stir at the same time with a spatula. This is exactly the same way we make semolina fufu or poundo yam.
6. Once you feel some resistance, stop adding the flour but keep mixing with the spatula till you get a soft and smooth dough.
7. Add the hot water you set aside earlier, cover and leave to steam very well.
8. Mix again and it’s done.
Serve with a healthy Soup.

Tips For pepper Farming

VEGETABLE FARMING: TIPS FOR STARTING PEPPERS OFF RIGHT

Hot or sweet, bell or chili—it's time to get your peppers into the garden or farm. Sweet pepper is a widely grown. It comes in red, yellow or green varieties.

The pepper has a mild flavour and is used in stews, salads, or stuffings with meats and pickles.

The plant can tolerate many climatic conditions from warm temperate to tropical, including irrigated dry hot areas.

Capsicums are sensitive to frost and the optimum temperatures for proper growth is 15 to 25ºC. The vegetables grow well in altitudes of up to 2,000 metres above sea level.

Soil requirements for capsicums are not strict as they can grow on most well-drained loamy or heavy cracking clay soils with an optimum pH range of 6.0 to 6.5. The low night temperatures in are good for this crop.

Seeds take 12 to 21 days to germinate with optimum soil temperatures of between 13 to 21 degrees centigrade. The seedlings will last 45 days in the nursery bed before transplanting. The crop is ready for harvesting after 90 days.

To make a seedling nursery, prepare a raised bed -- a metre wide or any convenient length. Manure (20kg/m2) and phosphatic fertiliser should be used.

Seeds should be sown in drilled rows spaced 15cm and thinly covered with soil. Thinning or pricking out should be done to a final seedling spacing of 5cm to allow growth of healthy seedlings.

Seedling beds can be lightly shaded in the first two weeks of germination and seedling development and watering done twice a day if in a hot environment.

Capsicum seed rate is 0.5kg/ha in the nursery and 1kg/ha for direct sowing. The field site for establishing capsicums should be well-prepared and manure applied judiciously (10 tons/ha).

Transplanting is done when seedlings are four to six weeks old (at a height of 10 to 15cm). At a spacing of 75cm by 45cm, one acre can easily accommodate 10,000 plants. At planting, 250kg/ha of double super phosphate fertiliser should be applied.

IRRIGATION

When they reach 15cm, top-dress with 100kg/ha of nitrogen (from CAN or equivalent source) and four weeks later another 200kg/ha should be applied.
As part of horticultural management to maximise production, the growing tips can be pinched out when the plants are 3cm high to encourage branching. Capsicum will perform well under irrigation.

Harvesting starts 2.5 to three months after planting and can continue for four to six months with good management. Only mature fruits should be picked and packaged for market. Sweet peppers should be harvested when filled out and still green.

Harvested fruits should be placed under shade for grading, sorting, and packaging to avoid shrivelling. Export produce should conform to the required standards with respect to quality, packaging and labelling.

With 10,000 plants per ha, each yielding about 15 to 25 good sized marketable fruits, a total harvest of 150,000 to 250,000 fruits depending on management is possible. At a market price of US 0.06 to 0.20 US per fruit, the gross turnover of US 9869.49 per ha is not an over-estimation as long as there is good market.

Production cost per hectare is about US 1480.42 Marketing opportunities are excellent in the local and export realms. There are several pests and diseases you must be aware of as far as capsicum growing is concerned.

Blossom-end rot: The disorder is caused by lack of calcium. It creates dark brown or black spots on immature fruits. To overcome it, plants should be evenly watered to ensure a steady flow of calcium to the fruits, especially at the forming stage.

Damping-off: Here, seedlings suddenly fall over and rot. This is caused by fungus and can be prevented by keeping the soil in which seedlings grow slightly dry to avoid excessive watering.

Cutworms: This nocturnal caterpillar curls around seedling stems and eats through them. They are controlled by using cutworm collars and applying beneficial nematodes to the soil.

Root-knot nematodes: These are microscopic soil-dwelling worms that can invade roots and make them wilt. They can be eradicated by growing a cover crop of marigolds or rye in infested fields for rotation.

Prof Mulwa is a crops expert at Egerton University.

TIPS

1. Select Healthy Plants
The seedlings you choose to plant in the garden need to be their best because they’ll go through a period of stress as they adjust to garden life. Choose plants that aren’t overly spindly, and those that have no fruit or flowers. (You can also just remove fruit or flowers if the plant looks generally healthy.) Allow the seedlings to harden off outdoors before planting so the can acclimate to the outdoor climate.

2. Get Rid Of The Weeds
Give all new plants—peppers included—the advantage of starting off in a weed-free bed, so they don’t have to compete with surrounding plants for water and nutrients.

3. Perform A Soil Test
A soil test will reveal the quality of soil in your garden bed, so you can add the appropriate fertilizers accordingly. There shouldn’t be too much nitrogen in the soil because that will give you a bushy plant rather than one that produces plentiful peppers.

4. Carefully Transplant
If you’re planting at the right time, your seedlings won’t have become root bound in their containers. Carefully remove the plants without disturbing their root systems. If by chance they have become root bound, you can disturb the roots a bit so they’re free to reach into the soil. If needed, add some fertilizer followed by compost into the whole to add a nutritional boost.

5. Mulch Around Plants
Add a mulch, such as leaf shavings, around the pepper plants to protect the soil and prevent water evaporation.

WHO KNEW 🥒 CUCUMBERS 🥒 COULD DO ALL THIS?

Spice up your 8 glasses per day of water with a slice or two of cucumber. It's wonderfully refreshing, but there are amazing benefits to cucumber as well. Cucumbers 🥒 are cooler than you think ...

1. Fat busting: Do you ever wonder why women put cucumbers on their eyes to relieve puffiness? The photochemical in cucumbers makes the collagen in your skin tighten, thus the lack of puffiness. Did you know that you can rub a cucumber on a problematic spot of cellulite anywhere on your body to lessen the visibility of it? Did you also know that it has the same effect on wrinkles? Wow, it makes purchasing those fifty dollar creams seem a little silly, doesn’t it? You can also rub a little bit under your kiddo’s eyes after a long bout of crying to avoid that puffy ‘I cried for an hour straight’ look.

2. Defogger: Do you get annoyed when you get out of the shower and you have to fight the fog on the mirror? Who has time for that when the kids will be awake at any moment? Try rubbing a slice of cucumber on the mirror before you hop in and not only will you get a fog-free mirror, but you’ll have a nice smell that will boost your mood.

3. Headaches: If you suffer from headaches from chasing your babies all day (or pets or your husband), or had a little too much wine with dinner and want to avoid a hangover, eat half of a cucumber before bed. Cucumbers are high in B vitamins, sugar, and electrolytes, and they replenish the nutrients missing in your body to help you avoid a hang over or to beat that headache that’s been threatening to take over.
br /> 4. WD-40 replacement: Did you know you can get rid of a squeak by rubbing a cucumber on the hinge? Wow, now you don’t have to tear your garage apart looking for that little can with the red straw, and the baby won’t wake up when you slowly open the nursery door to check on him.

5. Crayon on the walls: Take an unpeeled cucumber and rub the crayon off of the walls in the event that your kiddo left you some art. You can also use this technique to erase a pen mistake.

6. Halitosis killer: Take a slice of cucumber and put it on the roof of your mouth. Hold it there with your tongue for 30 seconds. The photochemical that you love for cellulite and puff reduction will also kill the bacteria that is causing your bad breath.

7. Tarnish remover: If you’re finding tarnish on your stainless steel kitchen faucets and appliances? Rub it off with a cucumber slice. Not only will it remove years of tarnish, it will leave it streak free and your hands will thank you, and your kids won’t be put at risk from a dangerous chemical.

8. Energy booster: If you’re feeling tired in the afternoon, don’t give Starbucks your five bucks. Instead, grab a cucumber. There are just enough carbohydrates and B vitamins to give you a longer-lasting and healthier boost of energy than soda, coffee, or those health hazard energy drinks.

9. Munchy madness: Did you know that European trappers ate cucumbers for energy and to keep from starving to death? If those big burly manly men can eat a cucumber to keep from starving, you can eat one as a healthy choice when the munchies hit. Slice some up and take them in a small plastic container to the movies if your theater doesn’t offer healthy alternatives to munching on butter soaked popcorn.

10. Frugal facial: Slice up a cucumber and boil it in a pot of water. The chemicals inside of the cucumber will mix with the steam. Remove the pot from heat and lean over it, letting the steam hit you. Your skin will be more radiant and healthy, and you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated.

11. Shoe polish: Cut a slice off of your cucumber and rub it on your shoe. It will not only shine it up, but it will repel water.

12. Pest control: Put three or four slices of cucumber in a small pie tin and place them in your garden. The chemicals in the cucumber have a reaction that pests hate. You won’t smell it, but it will drive them from your garden all year long. Replace them periodically.

13. Sunburn: Sometimes sun block doesn’t always protect your littl

e ones from sunburn. If you have burnt little kiddos you don’t have any aloe, rub some cucumber on them. Many doctors even use cucumber to treat patients with irritated skin and sunburns.

14. Blood pressure: Cucumber has been long used to treat high blood pressure. If you have it, add cucumbers to your daily diet. There is also ongoing research into the use of cucumbers for lowering cholesterol.

15. Constipation remedy: The seeds of a cucumber are a diuretic. If you’re constipated, try eating a cucumber. If you suffer from chronic constipation, add cucumber to your daily diet.
